Online Workshop - Your Zaaban is a Miracle

Register - Free

An online workshop on forming bilingual verses through poetry and prose, exploring how sound and tone can add a layer to writing.

(Limited spots available) Join us on Thursday 27th July at 6pm (UK time) for an online poetry and prose workshop based on celebrating being bilingual or coming from a bilingual background.

Hosted by poet and educator, Sana A. Rashid, the online workshop will give attendees the opportunity to produce a piece of writing, enabling participants to reflect on words, sounds, images and tones to build layers, which reflect personal identity.

The breadth of language is vast, the experiences of participants will be unique and the way in which emotions are expressed vary. By examining the various facets of language, including its written and spoken forms, physical expression through actions, and even the unsaid, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of a strategy that can be used for their writing practice in relation to their connection with cultural heritage and experience.

Online Workshops are held monthly as part of Commun People, a programme that advocates for emerging BIPOC voices to participate in the Arts while strengthening their skills and widening their employment opportunities. By encouraging critical discourse, peer mentoring, practical and creative development, the programme will support BIPOC voices to develop their practice and overcome often exclusionary barriers to initiating or sustaining a career in the Arts.

Sana A.Rashid is a British Pakistani poet and spoken word artist, who is keen to find inspiration in her everyday experience. She recognises the importance of celebrating and embedding aspects of her interpretation of identity into her craft. As a lover of languages, she enjoys combining two languages when writing poetry and prose. Sana has performed in open mic events, been featured in e-zines and anthologies, led poetry workshops and been a a participant of Haramacy, an artist development programme by COMMUN.
