Online Workshop - Scenography: Visual Storytelling

Register - Free

An online workshop introducing the visual elements that can enhance stage design, performance, installation and other disciplines.

(Limited spots available) Join us on Thursday 28th September at 6pm (UK time) for an online workshop exploring visual storytelling through the use of scenography.

Hosted by theatre designer, Jida Akil, the online workshop will give attendees the opportunity to explore avenues for visual design, the elements of scenography and effective moodboarding techniques.

Scenography serves as the backbone of narrative expression, allowing designers to craft immersive environments that convey emotions, themes, and messages. By exploring the different design avenues associated with visual elements like set design, lighting, and props attendees will gain insight into the profound impact visual storytelling can have on a wide range of creative fields. Attendees will also experiment with a simplified design process to expand your research and moodboarding techniques.

Online Workshops are held monthly as part of Commun People, a programme that advocates for emerging BIPOC voices to participate in the Arts while strengthening their skills and widening their employment opportunities. By encouraging critical discourse, peer mentoring, practical and creative development, the programme will support BIPOC voices to develop their practice and overcome often exclusionary barriers to initiating or sustaining a career in the Arts.

Jida Akil is a Syrian/Lebanese theatre designer, who has made a notable mark in the world of theatre design with her work exhibited at prestigious events like the Prague Quadrennial and World Stage Design. Her talent also earned her the role of Jerwood Assistant Designer at the Young Vic during 2021-2022. Among her impressive credits are productions like "Painkiller" at Theatre Royal Stratford East, "Midsummer Night’s Dream" at Stafford Gatehouse, "The Six of Calais" with Pegasus Opera Company, "Five Shorts" at the Young Vic, "How To Break Out Of A Detention Centre" at Riverside Studios, and many others.
